Annoying Song and Covers #30 – “Summertime”
As I previously noted on Randy’s blog I’m pretty sure the first version I ever heard of “Summertime” was Janis Joplin’s killer rendition with Big Brother & The Holding Company. That said, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald really own it. Incredible how certain songs get covered by so many artists and bands!
I think that may be true for many people hearing Joplin’s cover first. When I featured this song for one of my DUTCs in July of 2024, it was one I’ve the covers I used.
